7 THINGS YOU DID NOT KNOW ABOUT FRIENDS.

Nothing tops the idea of six pals sipping coffee on an orange couch. Friends has been winning the hearts of people all around since 1994. Even if you haven’t watched the classic love story of Ross and Rachel, Phoebe's music talent and Joey’s and Chandler’s duck and bird, you are still familiar with the whole drama. That is how amazing the show is. If you are huge fan of the show, there are still few things you are unaware of about friends. 

1) SEVERAL NAME CHANGES:

The show’s name went through a number of changes before it was finally called Friends. Insomnia Café was the first name considered but due to it’s dry and tired nature it was changed. A pitch was submitted to the network under the name “Maxwell’s House”. Then came the suggestion of “Across the hall” which was turned down due to it’s similarity with the ABC sitcom. Just before launching the series, the cast settled with the name “Friends”.

2) LISA’S HATRED FOR GUITAR:

Our very own Lisa kudraw hated the idea of Phoebe playing the guitar. Mainly because she sucked at it. She asked for the change of instrument to bongos. After a few lessons, she gave up and it was decided that she would only play the few chords she has learned.The idea turned out pretty good because the show wouldn’t have been the same without ‘smelly cats”

3) DIFFERENT CAST:

The beautiful  faces you have watching could’ve been different. There’s no shock in the fact that many people auditioned for the respective parts. Kathy Griffin and Jane lynch tried out for the part of Phoebe. Before Mathew Perry got the role of Chandler, John Favreau an Jon Cryer were considered. Our very own Courteney Cox was offered to play the part of Rachel, but she insisted to be selected for the part of Monica. Apparently, Monica seemed a bit mature and strong to her.

4) CHANDLER BEING GAY:

Remember the episode where chandler was hell bound on figuring out why people consider him gay? That was based on a true story. Apparently,as it turns out, many people assumed Chandler was gay including Lisa Kudrow. According to her, when she first read the script, a certain idea was planted in her head about Chandler being gay. Eventually, after a couple of scenes, the misunderstanding was cleared.

5) CHANGE IN NUMBERS:

Monica and Chandler’s apartments had the numbers 5 and 4 on them in the start. When the show’s director realized that Monica lives on a higher floor, he changed the numbers to 19 and 20. That is probably what happens when you have a lot on your plate.

6) FEMALE MONKEY:

Remember Ross’s favorite pet Marcel? The monkey playing the part of Marcel was not a male. It  was a female name Katie playing the character of a male monkey. Not just that, another male monkey replaced Katie in the show, a few times.

7) MATHEW PERRY’S ADDICTION:

Chandler’s addiction to cigarette's in the show’s episode was based on a real story. Perry‘s obsession with  drugs and alcohol made him join the rehab twice while being a part of the show. At first, he hid it from his colleagues, but eventually everyone figured out what is going on and decided to help him.
